30 Minutes in the Life - October at Rocking Horse Ranch

Every autumn we take a trip up to New Paltz to pick apples, look at the beautiful fall foliage and enjoy the quiet beauty of Upstate New York.

We tried something new this year and took the girls to Rocking Horse Ranch in Highland, about 90 minutes north of New York City in the Hudson Valley.

Rocking Horse is a family friendly resort on 500 acres with tons of indoor and outdoor activities geared for families of all ages. The kids LOVED IT. We stayed for three days and were EXHAUSTED by the time we left because there was so much to do and see (AND EAT - did I mention it was all inclusive?!)

Our first 30 minutes at the resort were pretty action packed. Within the first few minutes of arriving, we were greeted by a cavalcade of horses, crossing the road to their stable for the night. They were extremely friendly and loved to stop and say hello. One of the families that has been coming yearly told us that the horses never forget you…. it seemed like it was true because every horse kept stopping by to say hi every night while we were there.

We also met a “Highland Cow”. Amelia named him George since he was orange just like our cat.

The resort has so many activities, like paddle boating, mountain tubing, minigolf, horseback and pony rides - but the first thing the kids wanted to do was bungee jump. Amelia in particular was OBSESSED.

And Olivia could have played table tennis the entire time we were there.

As soon as we checked in and walked past the pool area, the kids begged to go in immediately. It had a huge slide and obstacle course that they both loved.
