My favorite Long Island Locations for Family Photographs - Hello Olivia Photography

It’s very hard to narrow down my favorite spots to take photos here on Long Island. There are so many different options and factors to consider when choosing a location.

Are you looking for something with a beachy vibe, or something a little more urban and trendy? Perhaps something more wooded and whimsical?

Whatever you have in mind, there is a location for you. Here’s my list of local Long Island favorites.

Smith Point Beach - Moriches, NY

Long Island is world famous for its beautiful (and plentiful) beaches, but Smith Point on the south shore in Brookhaven is my favorite. It’s less crowded than Jones Beach and Robert Moses and much easier to get to then others that are further out on Dune Road in the Hamptons or Montauk.

While I do have a soft spot for North Shore beaches (Cedar beach is my second on this list), a rock free sandy beach with tons of shoreline and gorgeous sunsets gets my top billing.

Cedar Beach - Miller Place / Mt Sinai, NY

Cedar Beach, on the North Shore of Long Island is well known for its fishing pier and very rocky beaches. The water is warmer and much calmer than the south shore - which is perfect for the little ones. This is more of a locals beach which usually means its a bit less crowded than it’s southern counterparts, but still equally as lovely.

Waterdrinker Family Farm - Manorville, NY

If you find yourself out by exit 69 on the Long Island Expressway, on the south side of Wading River Rd you’ll find Waterdrinker Family Farm. It’s absolute fun for the entire family, any season of the year. In the spring they have their famous tulip festival, in the summer they plant wild flowers and sunflowers, in the fall expect to see a pumpkin patch and corn field (perfect for those fall family sessions) and a winter wonderland in the colder months. It is absolutely picture perfect all year round.

This really only scratches the surface of awesome locations here on the Island (I haven’t mentioned any of the Nassau locations and there are PLENTY of those as well). It goes to show that there is no shortage of beauty that surrounds us in this place we call home.
